Moving Forward with UN/CEFACT Context for OAGIS

We had a good meeting this week for our Working Group that is working to implement the UN/CEFACT Context Specification (UCM) for OAGIS X.

The team has worked through several use cases and developed several ways to implement the Specification and we are now an OAGIS Implementation Guide for UCM.

Our general approach is to use three context categories, Geography, Process, and Industry (Finance, Chemical, High Tech, etc.)  We will be taking the approach of paring down the content and leaving behind what is needed for a specific context.

The team is excited about this moving forward and we will be meeting again on Tuesday, July 17 at 4 PM Eastern Time to review the first draft of the document.

Save the Date - OAGI Plenary and Working Group meetings November 15 - 16, 2012

All,

We invite you to save the dates of November 14 and 15, 2012 on your calendar for our upcoming Plenary and Working Group meetings hosted by Oracle at their headquarters in Redwood City, California.  The Plenary meeting will be on Wednesday, November 14 and we will have Working Group Meetings on Thursday, November 15.  The OAGi Policy Board will also meet on Tuesday, November 13.

We are planning two themes for the upcoming meeting.  The first is our Mobile Business and Cloud Computing initiative and the second theme is the beginning of the launch of OAGIS Release 10, (OAGIS X).  We are planning many exciting speakers and case studies.

Thanks you and look for more announcements and information as we get nearer to the meetings.

Kind regards,

David

We are designing best practices for using OAGIS components in a REST based API

We had an excellent Mobile, Cloud, and JSON Working Group meeting last week.  We were discussing using OAGIS in the JSON format using REST-based processing.  Some of our members are already doing this and they are sharing their experiences with the Working Group.

We are looking at using the 4 regular verbs for REST processing GET, PUT, DELETE, and POST.  We are thinking we may need to augment them with some of the existing OAGIS Verbs also, but that decision has not been made.

We have also declared that the highest form of content will be the OAGIS Noun and the lowest could be even at the Element level.  The componentization of the OAGIS architecture really lays a strong foundation for this new use of OAGIS.

Remember it is the content that is important and the more ways we can use the content the more useful the common data model will be of users of OAGIS.

Mobile, Cloud, JSON Initiative continues to make progress

Our Mobile, Cloud, and JSON Working Group continues to meet and make progress.  The most recent work has focused on using OAGIS within a REST framework, the most popular way to code API’s in the cloud and for mobile.

We are looking at using the 4 regular verbs for REST processing: GET, PUT, DELETE, and POST.

None of this means we will be eliminating the BOD Messaging capability, we are augmenting it with the REST capability.

Remember it is the content that is important and the more ways we can use the content the more useful the common data model will be of users of OAGIS.
