Terrific OAGi Chemical Council Call Yesterday

We had a terrific Chemical Council call this week on Tuesday, March 27 led by Tom Fannon of Ashland, who is the Chair of the Council.  We discussed the status of all of the OAGi standards projects and planned for the next two webinars of 2012.

The next two webinars will be on Cloud computing concepts, examples, and OAGIS work for the Cloud.  Jim Wilson, our OAGi Chief Architect will conduct the two webinars, each 30 minutes long, on April 10 and April 12.

In addition, Tom Fannon brought up a call he was on concerning the value of B2B and he said many organizations are not feeling the pain because they are going with one off solutions so they do not know the pain they are causing in other parts of their organizations or with their partners.

After some really good discussion, it was decided to try to pursue a White Paper on the topic, and to get the hub solution provides to get involved along with some customers like Ashland.   I asked Tom to begin thinking of a there for the white paper and develop a desired outcome.

I am looking forward to the process and the result.

Mobile Initiative continues to make progress
Our Mobile, Cloud, and JSON Working Group continues to meet and make progress. Although the scope of the Working Group is large because all these items are inter-related, the team is taking things one or two topics at a time.
We are moving forward on the naming and design rules for how we will express JSON, because there are several design patterns possible, and we are also gathering case studies for mobile applications.
Here is the scope of the Working Group as a reminder:
-  Mobile Business Case Studies as examples
-  Working with Solution Providers to support OAGIS JSON based apps on mobile devices
-  OAGIS Apps for mobile devices from OAGi and its members
-  Changes to the OAGIS BOD architecture to provide improved support for cloud
-  JSON based instances of the OAGIS BODs
-  A JSON tool converter
-  JSON Naming and Design Rules (NDR) similar to the current OAGIS XSD NDR
-  REST processing guide for OAGIS

The scope of this Working Group is not tied to any particular release of OAGIS and there is no set date for any of these deliverable, as there needs to be some research done and these topics will continue to evolve.
