OAGi issues a Press Release today announcing additions to OAGIS
for Mobile and the Cloud
OAGi today released a press release announcing
the decision to support Representational State Transfer (REST) processing for our
OAGIS Mobile and Cloud based JSON API’s.
These are the most common technologies used for common mobile and cloud
platforms.
This is being done to enable users to leverage their investment in
the OAGIS XML-based open standard for Mobile Business and Cloud Solutions. You can view the press release here.
OAGi also just released a Position Paper on
this topic that has more detail. You can
download it on our web site at http://www.oagi.org.
Thank you to all members who on this Working
Group, including ADP, Cisco, GXS, Infor, iBASEt, and Oracle.
Welcome Infor to the OAGi Policy Board
We welcome Pat O’Connor of Infor to the OAGi
Policy Board. Pat served on the Policy
Board in the past and also contributed to our Working Groups and to our work
with UN/CEFACT over the years. Infor
first joined OAGi in 2006 so they are a long term member as well.
Please join me in welcoming Pat O’Connor and
Infor back on our OAGi Policy Board.
New Partnership – OAGi partners
with NIST and the Object Management Group (OMG)
OAGi initiated has recently joined a new partnership to
build Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) diagrams for our OAGIS
Scenarios. This is an exciting
development as BPMN has become very important and a widely adopted graphical way
to express Business Processes.
OAGi has tried several times in the past to get this
done but the resources have historically not materialized. We are working with a very seasoned business
process expert and OAGi staff will provide guidance. We are discussing the best way to eventually
package and deliver the end result to our members.
This is a first step to eventually generating Business Process Execution Language (BPEL)
definitions which are machine readable and power process engine execution software
products. This step is not included in
this effort, but this is a step towards BPEL sometime in the future.
REMINDER – OAGi Face to Face Meetings
re-scheduled for November 29 - 30
We
will soon open registration for our upcoming face to face meetings on November 29
and 30, 2012. The meetings are once
again hosted by Oracle at their headquarters in Redwood City, California. The Plenary meeting will be on Thursday,
November 29 and we will have Working Group Meetings on Friday, November 30. The OAGi Policy Board will also meet on Wednesday,
November 28.
We
are planning two themes for the upcoming meeting. The first is our Mobile Business and Cloud
Computing initiative and the second theme is the beginning of the launch of
OAGIS Release 10, (OAGIS X). We are
planning many exciting speakers and case studies. We are also planning an awards ceremony for
our most current Outstanding Contributor awards.
Look
for more announcements and information very soon.
Mobile, Cloud, JSON
Initiative continues to make progress
Our Mobile, Cloud, and JSON Working Group continues to
meet and make progress. The most recent
work has focused on using OAGIS within a REST framework, the most popular way
to code API’s in the cloud and for mobile.
The team has started a Data Management Guide and a Design Guide
and will focus on those documents for the foreseeable future. The Working Group has also put together a
list of possible use cases as a way to help themselves and others visualize the
possibilities.
We welcome you to join the Working Group so please write to us
at inquiry@oagi.org.
OAGIS Release 10 work continues with plans for first Public
Review later this year
OAGIS Release Ten (OAGIS X) Working Groups continue to meet on a
regular basis and we encourage your participation. We can use all the smart people we can
get! The HR-XML mapping exercise has
been completed and the only major remaining content work to complete is the
Chem eStandards gap closure.
It is important that OAGIS X contains functional equivalence to
the Chem eStandards because this was the agreement before the CIDX merger in
2008.
All OAGi members are invited to join any of our Working Groups. If you are interested please contact us here.
